How much does Facebook pay for photos?

Meta publishes no price list. What you earn per 1,000 views is an outcome, not a rate — and you can calculate yours in two minutes.

Meta does not publish a rate per 1,000 views for photos. Photo posts are paid under Facebook Content Monetization, and the amount depends on how many qualified views the post gets, where the audience is located and what advertisers pay for that audience. The reliable number is your own: earnings divided by views, times 1,000, taken from your Professional dashboard.

Every forum answer to this question quotes a different figure, and all of them are guesses. Meta has not published a rate for photos, and any single number ignores the three things that actually move the payout.

Why there is no fixed rate

Photos are paid inside Facebook Content Monetization — the same program that covers reels, text posts and stories. Payouts are performance-based: you are paid for how your content performs, not per upload. Three factors do most of the work.

  • Qualified views. Not every impression counts the same; the program pays on views that meet its own criteria.
  • Where your audience is. Advertising demand differs enormously by country, so the same 1,000 views are worth several times more from one audience than another. This is the single biggest reason two pages with identical reach report completely different numbers.
  • Your niche and the season. Advertiser demand shifts by topic and by month; the fourth quarter is usually the strongest.

Work out your own number in two minutes

  • Open the Professional dashboard (or Meta Business Suite on desktop) and go to earnings insights.
  • Pick a period — the last 28 days works well.
  • Take earnings for photo posts and views for the same posts.
  • Divide earnings by views, multiply by 1,000. That is your real rate per 1,000 views for photos, on your page, with your audience.

Do it again a month later. The trend on your own page tells you more than any number from someone else's.

What has to be true before any of this pays

  • The page is in the Content Monetization program — it is invite-based, and you can express interest in the Professional dashboard.
  • The content is original. Reuploads, other apps' watermarks and lightly edited copies fall under non-original content: reach is cut and monetization is removed.
  • No clickbait or engagement bait, and no open policy strikes.

Are photos worth publishing at all?

Per post, video is stronger. In our study of 19,624 public posts, 12.5% of videos beat their own page's baseline by 5× or more, against 6.3% of photos, with median engagement of 50 against 21. But a photo costs minutes to make, so you can publish many more of them — and three quarters of everything published on Facebook is still photos. See video vs images.

The practical answer: stop hunting for a universal rate. Measure your own, then raise the two things you control — how many photo posts you publish and how often they beat your page's baseline.

Add the formats your page isn't using

Facebook pays for photos, text posts and stories — the same program as video. A page that publishes one format only leaves the rest of the program switched off.

FAQ

Does Facebook pay for photo views at all?

Yes. Photos are one of the formats covered by Facebook Content Monetization, together with reels, text posts and stories.

Why do people quote such different amounts per 1,000 views?

Because the payout depends on qualified views, the country of the audience and advertiser demand in that niche. Two pages with the same reach can earn very differently.

Where do I see what my photos earned?

In the Professional dashboard: earnings insights show the breakdown by content type, so you can see photos separately from video.

Do more followers mean a higher rate?

No. Follower count barely changes the chance of a post overperforming — in our data 7.9% for small pages against 8.0% for the largest. Reach per post is what moves earnings.

Can I publish photos I found online?

No. Other people's images and watermarked files count as non-original content: reach drops and monetization can be removed. Use your own material or content licensed to you.
